MNI and SNE welcome the Environment Committee’s support of the Delegated Regulation on Food for Special Medical Purposes

Brussels, 14 January 2016: Medical Nutrition International Industry (MNI) and Specialised Nutrition Europe (SNE) welcome the decision made today by the European Parliament’s Committee on the Environment, Public Health and Food Safety to support the Delegated Regulation on food for special medical purposes (FSMPs), after the objection to this Regulation was rejected by the Committee on 14 January 2016.

The new rules laid down in the FSMP Delegated Regulation complement the provisions of the Food for Specific Groups Regulation (EU 609/2013) to ensure appropriate  requirements for the composition, labelling and communication of FSMPs, including those intended for infants.

These new rules are the result of extensive consultations between the European Commission, Member States and interested parties. They are proportionate and appropriate to the specificities of the FSMP category.

MNI and SNE look forward to the formal adoption and implementation of the Delegated Regulation on FSMPs.
